What Is Anxiety?
Sitting an exam, public speaking, driving somewhere new or starting a job are all common sources of anxiety for many of us.
Anxiety is a response to something in the future; something that you fear will or might happen and you don't know how or if you will be able to cope. Anxiety can be based on a past experience; if you have no experience of a situation you have no idea how it will turn out. But it's also the case that if you have experienced a situation in the past and found it difficult and distressing you may be anxious about facing a similar situation again, in case it brings up the same difficult feelings.
