Self-directed learning is a broad type of employee development. In a way, we could probably lump (almost) every other chapter in this book under this umbrella. The distinction to draw, as far as this book is concerned, is that this type of learning is completed individually, by the employee, with little to no support from any external organizational structures or other people.
