In this section, I’ll make frequent references to concepts covered in detail in Chapter 2. If you aren’t comfortable with MBRs, partition tables, VBRs, partition types, physical and logical sector addresses, CHS, and tracks, you may want to reread that chapter or at least refer to it frequently to refresh your understanding.
You should recall that the master boot record (MBR) is located at the first physical sector of a hard drive. Although it contains important boot code, it also contains the partition table, which can describe up to four partitions on that hard drive.
