Introduction

Who is your customer? In the serious game business, it may be the firefighters who are playing your game to learn safety techniques. It may be the soldiers who use your simulation to acquire leadership skills. It may be the kids learning how to prevent fires in their community or who play your games just for fun. All of those groups could be considered your customers. But in this chapter, those are not the customer groups we’re discussing. Instead, we’ll focus on the representatives of the game publisher or organization that has commissioned your serious game, the entities you work with day in and day out during game development — in other words, the client.
