Management of Heating and Cooling
Abstract
Building HVAC systems are major energy users. Large reductions in energy use by HVAC equipment can and have been realized. Often these improvements are accomplished with existing equipment. Chapter 8 describes general principles for energy management in space heating and cooling systems, including requirements for human comfort and health. HVAC equipment operation, energy analysis techniques, codes and standards, and an overview of typical air distribution systems are described. Significant energy savings often can be achieved by relatively minor adjustments to existing systems. In other cases, major (and expensive) changes may be required. Strategies include:
