A Framework for Ethical Decision Making

We’ve described the Giving Voice to Values (GVV) approach as post-decision making—after one decides what to do in the face of a values conflict, how does one go about getting it done in a given context? While this action orientation is the focus of this volume, the following model is provided for reference. Most ethics courses and trainings include discussion of a decision model for determining ethical action. These models are designed to operationalize the philosophical principles of ethical decision making, to encourage exploration of stakeholders and impact, and ultimately to equip the actor to make a principled, reasoned decision.
