Dimensioning

OBJECTIVES

After reading this chapter, you will be able to

  • Dimension multiview orthographic projections of any machine part correctly

  • Use the aligned and unidirectional system of dimensioning

14.1 INTRODUCTION

To completely describe an object, one needs to know the details about its size in addition to its shape. Dimensions and notes give the size description of the object. If an object is to be manufactured to the exact size of the specifications, the dimensioning of the drawing of the object should be perfect and without any ambiguity.

In this chapter, two systems—aligned and unidirectional—of dimensioning of orthographic projections are discussed. The dimensioning of pictorial projections is also introduced.
