24.1 First- and second-order systems
There are two types of system that we shall be concerned with: first-order and second-order systems:
- A first-order system is one that can be modelled using a first-order differential equation. First-order electrical systems involve combinations of C and R or L and R.
- A second-order system is one that can be modelled using a second-order differential equation. Second-order electrical systems involve combinations of all three types of component: L, C and R.
