The promise of voice recognition technology has been around for quite a while. It now appears to be ready to plug into the Internet backbone of application servers and Enhydra XMLC is up to the task. The XML language of voice, according to the W3C specification, is VoiceXML. On March 7, 2000, the VoiceXML Forum released the VoiceXML 1.0 specification as a standardized programming interface for speech and telephony applications.
