10.1 Overview

The development and growth of the Internet and other related technologies have had tremendous impact on ESs. The Internet has evolved from a packet-switching backbone for computer interconnection supporting traditional applications to a powerful infrastructure for computing services and information sharing. With the emergence of the IoT, cloud computing, pervasive computing, ambient intelligence, Web 2.0, and social media, the Internet is moving into an unprecedented new era.
