150 Part II Message Endpoints
File endpoints certainly have their inherent difficulties. They are similar to plain
files in that they can cause performance problems if allowed to grow too large,
and they can be a nightmare to keep track of if they become too numerous.
However, file endpoints remain one of the mainstays of integration. Although
Web services seem to have cured many integration woes, developers will
continue to see files used for some time. As long as we continue to use files as
storage and transport mechanisms, we will have files; and as long as we have
files, we will need file endpoints.
