What is an IoT platform?

We have already seen in Chapter 3, Getting Started with IoT Platforms, what an IoT platform is. In this section, let's dig a bit deeper into the same architecture.

I had the privilege to architect and design an IoT platform named The IoT Suitcase. I started working on it in mid-2015 and finished the basic stack by the end of 2015. My goals in designing the platform involved these factors:

• Data processing
• Security
• Seamless hardware and cloud software integration
• Device management for individual devices and groups of devices
• User interfaces and dashboards
• High scalability
• Enterprise readiness
• Most important of all, the ability to add intelligence
