9.1. Using the Keychain to Secure Sensitive Data
The keychain is an oft-misunderstood feature in OS X. This is rather unfortunate, because it is a very powerful tool for managing passwords and sensitive information. There is always a trade-off between security and accessibility, and the keychain provides a very good balance of both, providing an interface that both securely stores data and does so in an interface that is mostly seamless to the end user. We say "mostly seamless" here because there are certainly occasions where the system breaks down, and the result is end user confusion.
