In Mexico, cosplay is a recent innovation. Growing out of the fandoms associated with Japanese media at the end of the twentieth century, cosplay presented a way for fans to explore their shared enthusiasm. As in other nations, however, cosplay and cosplayers are not monolithic in their practice.
