So the way to get ahead in an organization is to find out what the company needs and then ask yourself how you can fulfill that need. That's the strategy Vicki Gordon put together in her 35-year career in the hotel industry. It's gotten her up to the level of senior vice president of corporate affairs at Intercontinental Hotel Group, a hotel conglomerate that includes 3,800 hotels worldwide. Pretty good for someone who didn't even know what a bar mitzvah was when she started booking parties at a Sheraton Hotel in Minneapolis.
