WATER TREATMENT METHODS

4.1 TREATMENT OF WATER FOR DOMESTIC SUPPLY

The water which is used for drinking and human consumption is called drinking water.

Specification of Drinking Water

  1. The odour and colour should be absent.
  2. The water has to be pleasant to taste and cool.
  3. The maximum turbidity is to be 10 ppm.
  4. The pH of the water is to be neutral.
  5. The level of chloride and sulphate is to be less than 250 ppm.
  6. The total hardness and TDS is to be less than 500 ppm.
  7. The level of fluoride is to be less than 500 ppm.
  8. The drinking water should be free from the objectionable gases and minerals such as lead, chromium, etc.
