8. Non-coding RNAs across the kingdoms—bacteria and Archaea
Even though pathways, mechanisms, and functions of biogenesis have been known for some groups of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) (especially in eukaryotes), there are still numerous pitfalls and challenges on the way to understanding the whole complexity and evolution of ncRNAs. The following pages highlight examples of ncRNAs in Prokaryota that can be attributed to one of the previously discussed major groups (see Chapter 7, “Non-Code RNAs Involved in Epigenetic Processes: A General Overview”) and act alike or represent different modes of biosynthesis and functions.
