4Literature Review: Factors Affecting the Relationships between the ERP System’s Evolution and IS Integration or Disintegration
This chapter gives a description of the literature review. Given that an enterprise resource planning (ERP) is an indicator of information system (IS) integration, it is important to study some interaction factors between ERP systems and the IS. Within this perspective, the ERP system’s selection criteria and then the success or failure of the ERP implementation are crucial factors to consider. The analysis of the literature helped us to discover the appropriate factors that impact the IS evolution’s trajectory, thereby allowing us to reply to the research question.
Kumar et al. [KUM 03] analyzed a practical survey of 20 enterprises in Canada of ERP selection criteria (functionality of the ERP, better fit with company’s business processes, fit with parent/allied organization systems, cross-modular integration, best business practices available in the system, system reliability, implementation project management, vendor reputation, availability of regular upgrades, compatibility with other systems, vendor’s support/service infrastructure, ease in customizing the system and lower costs of ownership).
