The first documented examples of mankind attempting to store and share information can be traced back to the earliest prehistoric cave paintings. Those paintings are approximately 22,000 years old and are found in northeastern Spain. This even can be called the first attempts of storing and communicating information optically. Naturally, the eyes were the devices of data retrieval and a stone was the recording medium for the next 20,000 years.
