Today’s firms are increasingly operating in a global system of interrelated businesses. Many have expanded their businesses by buying and selling their products and services internationally; an increasing number of others now operate full businesses in many—sometimes more than 100—countries. In either case, leaders will have to understand the national cultures in which they are doing business if they are to succeed.
