The objective of this chapter is to introduce the Symbolic tools available within MATLAB. It is a useful set of tools for the application of mathematics in science and engineering. Examples of the application of the Symbolic capabilities have already been given elsewhere in this book to check analytic solutions found in the literature. In addition, predictions based on the analytic solutions were compared with predictions based on computational methods. The Symbolic mathematical tools covered in this chapter are:
