22Rendering the Guardian Scene

Note: This chapter is included for those who wish to know how I set up the final render and isn’t intended to be a complete guide to either 3ds Max or Mental Ray, as it is taken for granted that the user has some previous experience.

To render out the final scene I decided to use Mental Ray inside of 3ds Max for several reasons. Although I am a big advocate of the power of ZBrush’s own render engine, it simply would not (on my current machine) be able to handle the polygon counts of every item in the scene without dropping everything to 2.5D.
