Although risk management is as old as business itself, ERM as a separate discipline is still in its infancy. Given that, it is more than a bit presumptuous to talk about its future. However, with the rapid growth of the field a few trends are emerging that appear to be likely to continue.
The first trend is ERM as a form of regulatory compliance. Although we have tried to be very careful about not commingling ERM and compliance, the reality is that ERM and compliance are closely intertwined in the minds of regulators, corporate officers and other stakeholders.
