Energy production and supply is a major component of the world economy and vital to the smooth running of human affairs. A balance has to be struck between the energy needed and the energy produced, with the price fluctuating according to supply and demand. The energy market is a classic example of conventional economics. When more is needed, the price rises, investment capital flows into increasing energy production capacity, and the price falls back. Leaving it to the market can manage balance within the current energy system, but it is incapable of reforming it.
