You have probably heard the expressions the “slippery slope” and the “thin end of the wedge,” which suggest that a relatively small first step can lead to a chain of related events that can end up having a much more significant impact. The expressions are often used in relation to giving small concessions or permissions that are seemingly innocuous, but that may open the door to larger and clearly undesirable actions that were never the intention of the person, who gave the concession or permission.
