Artificial intelligence and basic human needs: the shadow aspects of emerging technology

Abstract

While advancing artificial intelligence (AI) applications have brought ease and benefit to human life in meeting our physical needs, it is less obvious how they would impact psychological needs. This study analyzes three emerging technologies—autonomous vehicles; facial recognition systems; and AI writing or image generators—from the perspective of six fundamental human needs; certainty, variety, significance, connection, growth, and contribution.
