CHAPTER 3: THE REGULATION
The GDPR was adopted by the EU Council and Parliament in April 2016, and took effect in every EU Member State in May 2018. The GDPR is a long document, setting out requirements for organisations and for Member States, and making provision for an EU Data Protection Board. This chapter aims to provide a quick overview of the key points you need to be aware of to comply.
The full text of the GDPR can be found on the EUR-Lex database (https://eur-lex.europa.eu/) in every language of the European Union.23 For organisations in the UK, the ICO has extensive guidance on the Regulation, providing a centralised source of information on how it is applied in the UK.
