TIME TO PLAY
Your Perfect Average Day
The point of this book is to reclaim your creativity so you can make more magic at work. A critical element in this process is to reimagine what work could look and feel like. Without a bold, brilliant, beautiful vision, there’s nothing motivating you to do the work necessary to create it.
Which is why I’m now going to ask you to do an exercise I call Perfect Average Day.
Find a cosy corner, preferably outside or near a window. Make yourself a cup of tea, take out your favourite pen and your Everyday Creative journal and give yourself a good hour to sink into a sacred space of self-indulgence.
You’re going to dream and design your Perfect Average Day one year in the future (or you could choose five or 10 years, whatever suits).
PERFECT meaning perfect. It could not have gone better. Every moment, from when you wake up until you fall asleep, is awesome. Whatever ‘awesome’ means to you. Let yourself lift the lid, no limitations, no boundaries. Dream big, in vibrant colour, and enjoy it.
AVERAGE meaning just a regular ol’ Tuesday. There is nothing out of the ordinary, no significant events. You don’t win the lottery or get a surprise promotion. It’s a normal, run-of-the-mill day. But it’s PERFECT.
When you write, be descriptive and visceral. Go into detail about your surroundings and how they make you feel.
