Social Letters and E-mails
Social letters are those addressed to friends, family, and acquaintances. You may write these letters for any purpose, from expressing greetings to raising a complaint with a neighbor. But because the relationship you have with the recipient of such a letter is important to you, you’ll probably handle these letters with less formality and more (or less) intimacy.
Unless you’re wanting simply to “journal” on paper to someone close to you (“It’s been a long time…. Here’s what we’ve been up to….”), social letters, too, have a purpose; structure them to best suit your purpose.
