Whenever possible, generate new workbooks from templates that are available for Excel. Don't forget that the program provides you with a whole host of useful templates from online Office.com from Agendas to Time Sheets that you can start using right out of the box. To do so, just open the Available Templates panel in the Backstage View by clicking File

In addition to the templates listed in the various categories in the Available Templates panel, you can search Microsoft Office Online for other templates, which you can then download for use in Excel 2010. Simply click the Start Searching button (the one with arrow pointing to the right) located after the text box in the Office.com Templates section of the panel that contains, Search Office.com for Templates.
