14. Using Statistical Functions
Statistics in Excel fall into three broad categories:
• Descriptive statistics that describe a data set—These include measures of central tendency and dispersion.
• Regression tools—These allow you to predict future values based on past values.
• Inferential statistics—This type of statistic allows you to predict the likelihood of an event happening, based on a sample of a population.
Table 14.1 provides an alphabetical list of all the Excel 2013 statistical functions. Detailed examples of the functions are provided in the remainder of the chapter.
