36. Printing

The Excel team has attempted to streamline the printing process in Excel. Starting with Excel 2010, they consolidated settings from several different dialogs plus Print Preview into the new Print panel on the File menu.

I remain unconvinced. Here’s why:

• The Print panel does bring together many print settings that were formerly spread across several dialogs, but it does not bring them all in one place. You now have nine different places where you can control page setup and print settings.

• Ctrl+P used to be a one-key method for doing a quick print using the default settings, and now it takes you to the Print panel instead. If you miss this functionality, you should consider adding Quick Print to the Quick Access Toolbar.
