Design for design’s sake
As designers, we’re passionate about what we create. We’ll very happily spend time reworking something, changing something, improving something. Give any designer a design and he’ll think of something to do to it. If you ask what he’s trying to achieve, you might find the answer is he’s designing just for the love of doing it.
We’ve already talked about perfection getting in the way of shipping experiments, and it’s worth reiterating here: it’s crucial to find the point where a design, though not perfect, is good enough.
Good design keeps the user happy, the manufacturer in the black and the aesthete unoffended.
