Planning Support and the Intentionality of Dynamic Environments

When operators of complex plants are faced with a planning task, they find themselves in an environment designed with very specific purposes in mind. However, the support they receive, typically in the form of a prescribed procedure, does not reveal much of this knowledge to the operator. In this chapter we first discuss how existing procedures can be analyzed to capture some of the designer’s intentions with the plant and the procedures.
