Windows supports Performance objects (also referred to as Performance categories), where each Performance object has one or more counters associated with it. Essentially a Performance object is a logically similar set of Performance counters that are grouped together; for example, there is a Performance object called Processor that has several counters like Processor Time, User Time, and so on. In addition to counters, Performance objects also have something called instances, which allow us to have multiple Performance counters of the same type under the same category.
