Reaching out to all the friends you care about to find out what's going on in their lives is a lot of work. That's one of the reasons why, in a pre-Facebook world (talk to a 14-year-old — he won't believe such a thing existed) people frequently lost touch with friends as they moved through their lives. Calling each friend once a week, or even once a month, was timeconsuming. In this happy, shiny, post-Facebook world, however, keeping in touch with friends is much easier.
The main way people keep in touch on Facebook is through News Feed, the constantly updating list of stories about content people are posting to their Timelines. I talk about News Feed at length in this chapter, and also about the ways you interact with what you see there. News Feed isn't just about reading the posts you see there; it's also about comments, likes, and the occasional foray to visit a friend's Timeline. Additionally, if you're ever feeling a bit nostalgic, Friendship Pages is a virtual scrapbook that may just bring tears to your eyes.
