Have you ever run a marathon for charity and requested donations? These types of social interactions have always happened on Facebook as well as out in the world, so after a while Facebook built some features to make these particular interactions easier and more streamlined. By using Facebook for these activities, you can reach a larger portion of your community instead of limiting yourself to just your friends.
Marketplace and Buy/Sell groups are your first stops for local buying and selling. Think of them as easy-to-browse yard sales managed by local community members or people interested in particular items. Marketplace covers virtually every type of thing you might want to sell, while Buy/Sell groups often have a specific focus.
