Entertainer Frank Sinatra may not have immortalized my professional life in a song, but the title of his hit “My way” is perfect for my career path in Facility Management.
As we all know, the journey is the reward. Mine was unexpected, but all the more exciting and enriching. When I thought of real estate at the beginning of my professional life, it was for me places of encounter and living spaces for people. Architecturally pleasing or just functional. Today I know that real estate is much more than that. In order to fill these places with life for people, to meet their needs, demands, and desires for living spaces, processes are needed. This soul, real estate, only arises when the human being is at the center of all actions. This is exactly the focus of facility management. An agile and multifaceted industry, an always challenging task and a reward that has a very special value: satisfied, healthy people.
What would happen if all facility management employees suddenly stopped work for 24 hours? Our country would stand still! Nothing would work anymore, because FM is in all areas of our private and professional everyday life. When shopping, in the football stadium, in the office or among modern production facilities, when traveling on vacation or our health care. Facility management is not always in our daily consciousness, because it is especially good when you hardly notice it, because everything runs smoothly. ...
