5 Top Down Features

In top down feature stories, the journalist takes responsibility for the story but uses segments from interviews to tell major parts of it. The proportion of VO to SYNCS varies. The interviews either support asserted claims or add colour by giving opinions. Case studies are merely illustrations but not the focus.

In some stories, the personality of the journalist is featured. In others, the journalist is relatively invisible. The extent to which the journalist appears in the story is culturally determined.

The best characteristic of a feature story is that it communicates a sense of experience.
