Examining the WFM Drivers
IN EXAMINING THE WFM drivers it is important to reiterate the major difference between waste-free manufacturing’s approach and all the other world class manufacturing systems. By making a significant change (changing the rules) to the guiding principles of TPS (JIT manufacturing), WFM provides companies with a way to rapidly deploy and implement a waste-free process–or at the least a much accelerated implementation process. U.S. manufacturing must realize that following the same structured path of Japan’s companies, and more specifically Toyota, in pursuit of JIT manufacturing will simply leave us treading in the dust of those who have gone before.
