Modelling high-cycle fatigue of textile composites on the unit cell level

Abstract

The chapter presents a micro-fatigue analyser for textile composites, a modelling approach for prediction of S–N curves based on the meso-level finite elements model of the textile composite unit cell and the ‘fatigue jump’ algorithm. The finite elements models include a quasi-static damage analyser, which is invoked at different stages of the fatigue loading. S–N curves for unidirectionally reinforced composite, representing the impregnated yarns, are used as the input fatigue data. The models are validated based on literature data on fatigue of carbon/epoxy woven composites.
