4.1 Introduction

Performance analysis and behaviour prediction of fiber lasers depend on several parameters. Therefore, developing fiber lasers relying on experimental work alone is inefficient. Such an approach often leads to tedious, costly, and time-consuming development methods. To alleviate such constraints an accurate model of rare-earth-doped lasers is desirable.
