Chapter 7. Converting Files
No software program is an island. This chapter focuses on using FileMaker to build bridges by converting files from older FileMaker versions, bringing data from other application files into FileMaker (importing), and formatting FileMaker data so that other programs can use it (exporting). In a bit of welcome news, FileMaker 6 sticks with the .fp5 format used in FileMaker 5 and 5.5, and so doesn’t need to convert 5- and 5.5-based files. That also means you can open files created with FileMaker 6 even if you’re still using versions 5 or 5.5. (Veteran users will recall that FileMaker 4 could not open files created by versions 5–5.5.)
