While we all hope that our projects will be functioning smoothly for years into the future, it never hurts to be prepared for your database going offline. There are many reasons for a database connection to suddenly stop working and constantly return the FileMaker_Error object instead of the FileMaker_ ResultSet; the most common ones are outlined first and should solve 95 percent of your connectivity issues.
