Assistant director (AD) The director’s right-hand person, also called the first assistant director. Depending on the scope of the film, there can be second ADs and additional seconds.

Associate producer One of the lowest producer credits available, though often directly disproportionate to the amount of work the bearer of this credit has done on a film.

Auteur A filmmaker—usually a writer-director—with a strong personal vision who leaves a distinctive mark on a film, regardless of the many other collaborators involved.

Below-the-line Refers to the technical crews and costs related mainly to the physical production and post-production of a film. Salaries of starring actors, directors, writers and producers are considered “above-the-line” ...
