William Chang Suk-ping was born in Hong Kong in 1953. He knew from the age of 14 that he wanted to be involved in films, and by 18 he was assisting the maverick director Cecile Tang Shu-shuen. He studied film at the Vancouver School of Art (now the Emily Carr University of Art and Design) before returning to Hong Kong where his first full credit as production designer was on Patrick Tam’s Love Massacre (1981), ...
