Thinking about retirement

Your financial health in retirement depends upon many issues, and some of these are beyond your control. Your physical health in retirement and how long you will live, for instance, are unpredictable, and while it is very important to take them into consideration when making plans, it is not possible to make any exact estimates. In this chapter we will look at some of the strategic issues that crop up during retirement and consider how to optimize the possibilities, striking a balance between staying flexible, enjoying the best possible quality of life, and passing on money to your relatives after you die.

The topics covered in this chapter are:

  • Where to retire?
  • Changing your asset allocation in retirement
