Xerox implemented Ethernet in the early 1970s as a rudimentary network protocol. Chlamtac and Franta's seminal book on Ethernet, Local Area Networks, conceptualized the first approach to local-area networking in 1979. Since then, Ethernet has evolved from just a data-link layer protocol to a universally acceptable protocol that integrates and works as a method of communication over multiple network types.
