Community Network Management
The third generation of optical networks (the first two were fiber and SONET) has found new application in intelligent city networks. One of the key issues in creating city networks and ensuring their overall success is the management of such networks. From the management perspective, city networks pose a multifaceted problem. Among the many issues that require special attention are multiservice provisioning platforms (MSPP), multivendor issues (interoperability), and data and voice bundling. Although far from complete, this list represents the key management bottleneck for provisioning services on a real-time basis in city networks.
