1.25. Mixing Custom Colors

Problem

You want to mix a custom color.

Solution

Use the Color Mixer panel or the system color picker (available in the color pop up).

Discussion

When you click the Fill or Stroke color box in the Tools panel or Property inspector, Flash displays a color pop up with the colors stored in the Color Swatches panel, which by default contains the 216 colors of the web-safe palette. These colors are often insufficient to meet design needs, so you’ll often need to mix your own colors.

Flash has a dedicated interface for mixing colors: the Color Mixer panel. To mix a solid color, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Color Mixer panel (Window → Color Mixer).

  2. In the Fill Style menu, choose Solid.

  3. To mix a color, use any combination of visual and numeric controls.

To mix a color visually, drag in the Color Space and/or drag the Brightness Control slider.

To mix a color numerically, enter the desired values in the Red (R), Green (G), and Blue (B) fields; alternatively, enter a hexadecimal color value in the Hex Edit Text Box.
